What is Hushbird?
Hushbird is a macOS app that combines speech-to-text dictation with text-to-speech reading in a single application.
A configurable hotkey starts dictation, and transcribed text is inserted wherever the cursor is, in any app. A cleanup pass removes filler words and corrects punctuation. Selecting text and triggering the reader speaks it aloud.
Transcription and speech synthesis run locally on Apple Silicon. No audio is sent to a server, no account is required, and the app works offline after initial setup. It detects the machine's specification and selects an appropriate model automatically.
Other features include a personal dictionary for names and terminology, and automatic English and Spanish detection for dictation. The reader supports additional languages.
Licensing is a one-time purchase of $39.99 covering two Macs, with a seven-day trial that does not require a credit card. Apple Silicon is required; Intel Macs are not supported.
