What is Hugo?
What is Hugo?
Hugo is a general-purpose website framework. Technically speaking, Hugo is a static site generator. This means that, unlike systems like WordPress, Ghost and Drupal, which run on your web server expensively building a page every time a visitor requests one, Hugo does the building when you create your content. Since websites are viewed far more often than they are edited, Hugo is optimized for website viewing while providing a great writing experience.
Sites built with Hugo are extremely fast and very secure. Hugo sites can be hosted anywhere, including Heroku, GoDaddy, DreamHost, GitHub Pages, Google Cloud Storage, Amazon S3 and CloudFront, and work well with CDNs. Hugo sites run without dependencies on expensive runtimes like Ruby, Python or PHP and without dependencies on any databases.
We think of Hugo as the ideal website creation tool. With nearly instant build times and the ability to rebuild whenever a change is made, Hugo provides a very fast feedback loop. This is essential when you are designing websites, but also very useful when creating content.

Comments and Reviews
This is an absolute game-changer for me, no need for the Wordpress stack anymore for simple websites for clients.
Very smart and well-structured.
To build the extended edition of Hugo from source you must:
Install Git Install Go version 1.20 or later Install a C compiler, either GCC or Clang Update your PATH environment variable as described in the Go documentation
Super fast in (re-)generating the whole website. Very logic and easy concept of site-layout and keeps a lot of freedom for the own creative layout concepts. Well, some learning is required when you want to create your own themes; but there are quite some nice themes available for free download.
Fast, easy to use, active community and lots of themes. The documentation is very bad once you want to do something custom though and lots of alternatives have been popping up lately.
It is simple and fast. The only hurdle to overcome are custom themes but once you get a foothold progress pours like a waterfall. I love the workflow and integrated support of SASS in form of Hugo pipes.
free and open source very easy lightweight a lot of beautiful themes which are also free/opensource and very customizable (some even have user comments functionality) a good amount of ci/cd services already have integration with Hugo and if you use org-mode on Emacs you can use ox-hugo for seamlessly converting the org files to markdown.
