Holos information
What is Holos?
Holos is a macOS dictation app for people who speak two languages. Other dictation tools pick one language when the recording starts and hold it for the whole utterance, so a sentence in your other language comes out as gibberish or gets silently translated. Holos identifies the language sentence by sentence, splitting the audio where you pause, so you can switch mid-paragraph without touching a setting.
English paired with Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Ukrainian, Hindi and 22 others. Twenty-nine languages in total, each tested switching in and out of English. A small indicator shows you which language it is hearing while you are still speaking.
Recognition runs entirely on your Mac. Audio is never written to disk and never transmitted. There is no account and no telemetry. It uses Apple's on-device speech engine where that covers the language and whisper.cpp everywhere else.
You can also teach it words it keeps getting wrong, and set spoken shortcuts that expand into whole sentences.
Requires macOS 26 and Apple silicon. 14 days free with no card, then $39 a year.
