What is HL7 Sender?

HL7 Sender sends HL7 v2 messages (ADT, ORM, ORU and others) to a receiver such as an EHR interface, Mirth Connect or Apache NiFi over MLLP, and shows clearly whether each message was accepted or rejected and why.

  • Matches each acknowledgment to its message (MSA-2 = MSH-10) and decodes ERR segments
  • Durable queue per destination: messages are saved before sending, retried with backoff, and moved to a dead-letter queue when they keep failing
  • Enhanced acknowledgment mode: commit ACKs (CA/CE/CR) and later application ACKs
  • Built-in test listener that plays the receiving system, with rules and failure modes
  • MLLP over TLS, HTTP(S), folder and FHIR R4 destinations
  • HL7 v2 to FHIR R4 preview, load testing, scheduled sends
  • hl7send command-line tool for scripts and CI

Installers for Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux include their own Java runtime. MIT licensed. A testing tool: use test data, not real patient data.
