What is hidane?

hidane replaces the official Cloud Firestore emulator with a single Rust binary. No JDK is needed: firebase-tools 15 made Java 21 a requirement for the official emulator, and hidane needs none.

It speaks the same gRPC, REST and WebChannel on one port, so the Admin SDK, the Google Cloud client libraries and the web SDK connect unchanged. It enforces Security Rules as the official emulator does, runs under firebase-tools with hidane exec -- firebase emulators:start (Cloud Functions triggers included), and exports in the official format.

Compatibility is measured: more than 54,000 answers recorded from the official emulator are replayed against hidane in CI, and every difference is documented. It starts in 1.56 ms and idles at 9.4 MiB, against 981 ms and 148 MiB for the official emulator on the same machine.
