Herron information
What is Herron?
Herron is a free surface-planning tool that gives you a verified layout plan before you cut a single tile or plank. It runs entirely in your browser, no app to download, no account to create, no cost.
Draw your room shape, including L-shapes, alcoves, pillars, and irregular angles. Enter your tile or plank dimensions, choose from 5 laying patterns (straight, brick bond, 1/3 offset, diagonal, and herringbone), and Herron generates a complete layout with every piece indexed and every cut dimensioned.
What you get:
- A visual layout showing exactly where every tile falls, including edge cuts along every wall
- A row-by-row cut list with piece dimensions and blade angles, grouped for batch processing
- Automated thin-cut detection that flags slivers before you start, so you can adjust the layout offset to eliminate them
- Smart offcut reuse that pairs usable offcuts to reduce waste
- A material order calculated to packing units with adjustable waste buffer (0–20%) and cost per square metre
- An interactive step-by-step installation sequence showing where to place each piece, with cut diagrams and fitting instructions
- PDF export
Herron works with any rectangular tile or plank: ceramic, porcelain, LVT/LVP (click-lock, glue-down, loose lay), laminate, hardwood, engineered wood, natural stone, and exterior patio tile.
The geometry engine operates at ±1mm precision. Edge gaps are configurable in 1mm increments. Layout offsets can be set manually or auto-optimised to balance edge cuts across the room.
Built for contractors running residential and light-commercial installs, DIY homeowners doing their own flooring or patio work, interior designers who need verified material counts for bids, and supplier sales teams generating take-off estimates.
Completely free. No signup. No paywall. No feature limits. Supported by affiliate links to materials suppliers at no extra cost to the user.
