What is Hardly Working?

Hardly Working is a small macOS menu bar app that stops Teams, Slack or Discord from marking you "away" when you step back from your Mac. Those apps read the macOS idle timer. Once it passes a threshold you choose (2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 minutes), the app moves the cursor by one pixel and puts it back: never a click, and nothing at all while you are using the mouse. It then checks that macOS registered the movement, and the icon switches to an alert state if it did not, so it never pretends to work. Free, MIT-licensed, signed and notarized by Apple. Optional launch at login. Requires macOS 14 or later.
