Decent results given varying quality of content on the Internet.

foerno's comment above is accurate. Google track not just your searches, but where you go online, what you write in your emails, to whom and much else besides. Their business model consists of building up a profile of their users and making a profit from this. It is far worse than being followed around by a private detective. You cannot predict who will have this information in 20 years time and how it could be used. We already know that intelligence agencies are asking companies like Google and Yahoo to hand this information over to them. This applies to people who use Google, Yahoo, Bing even if they don't live in the US.
So alternatives to Google search: several. DuckDuckGo is one. Another is Startpage, which searches Google on your behalf and gives you their results without ever revealing to Google that it was you that searched for the information. Another option is Disconnect Search, which does a similar thing.
I'm just restating everyone's comments at this point, but you know it's true: Google is simply a privacy nightmare. An additional problem for me - every time I try to make a Google search on my computer (with Firefox), I would get a "Secure Connection Failed" error telling me something about the server using "key pinning (HPKP)"; it works everywhere else (on my Google Pixel 8a with Brave or Mull; on other computers), but not on my computer. So basically now Google serves as useless for me. (This issue also seems to apply to almost every single Google-owned domain, including YouTube; not just Google Search.) (I have yet to reinstall Firefox to see if the install being corrupt is the issue. Even afterward though, Google is still a bad service overall.)
The most reliable alternative for me is Brave Search, so have at it.

Recent update makes you unable to get certain results with X page number. Look for cats and keep going until you reach the end. Yes, the number of cat websites stop showing up. This is how google wants you to search, only the top SEO websites not normal websites.
Google Search has gotten old.. and doesn't seem to want to check on outdated & spam-type info... aside from having more ways to mine your info than the average person can easily see. Gimmicky graphics can be an annoyance that Google won't make easy to turn off. I am liking PreSearch as an alternative. At the least, it's great to have an additional set of different results. Google results seem hung up on people and culture when I'm looking for factual info.
While Google isn't all too well in terms of privacy, I can overlook it if it gives me a really good searching experience with tons of smart answers, which it does.
