I use it to look at the backyards of the neighbours houses. 3D view lets me see from all angles. Thanks Google!

An example of how to NOT to make a map software.

  • Messed up categories
  • Completely broken search (I just don't know what it does right - it never gave me complete and sensible result in ~10 years and 5 countries)
  • Dumb choice of objects on different zooms (random shop or venue is more important than metro station somehow...)
  • Terrible rendering hiding actually important details on sensible zooms
  • Missing essential features (like you just cannot save a point on the map, and dozens others)
  • Hundreds of other completely unforced problems

I like Google Maps, but it tortures the frugal on their Android ..I'm not sure which part causes the problem most.. slower data connection or slower phone. Same with my Transit App. So, I'm wondering if there's something more lightweight out there. 2025 Solution: On my slow android, I use UC Browser and Maps Go while I keep the standard Maps app disabled. Seems to work well. Google Maps Go icon Google Maps Go

Honestly I have had hours of fun just using Google maps. Looking at old houses that I used to live at. Nostalgia for real

If basing the score on emotions, I'd give Maps 3 stars. It's the quintessential app for navigation & discovering new places, so I can overlook my annoyances with it.

The saved lists of locations are a good idea, but the UI needs work. Horizontal scrolling through lists shouldn't be a thing on the mobile app.

The Timeline feature is both amazing & terrifying. I can look back to see where I was throughout the entire day, including how I got there. But I realize this data can be powerful if it ends up in the wrong hands (if it hasn't already).

I still don't feel I can fully rely on any other GPS/map service for my daily needs.

i both like and hate it, google maps has the best map if you want to go somewhere fast but lacks the ability to let you do custom maps.
