What is GitHyp?

GitHyp was created by HypTrain Technology, LLC in January 2015 to collect and compile data from various gaming sources.

Our goal since launching the site in 2016 has always been to give gamers the power to make well-informed choices before investing their hard-earned time and money into games that may or may not be worth the investment.

We grew up in an age of cartridge games and static scores in monthly magazines. But that was before the Internet… and review scores can no longer keep up with today’s constant wave of new downloadable content, loot box drama, game-breaking bugs, and patches. GitHyp uses that same technology to make the data around game communities more transparent than ever before.

Every hour, GitHyp collects player data from Steam and viewer data from Twitch. We then make this data available in easy-to-read graphs and tables so that anyone can see the performance of a game over time. Empowered with this information, a gamer can now know for certain the size of a game’s player and viewer base before jumping right in.

Player count data is currently limited to games on Steam. Other companies such as EA, Microsoft, Sony, and Ubisoft do not offer public APIs for their own clients. However, we have found direct correlations between our data and publishers’ press releases as you can read more about in our weekly analysis. As other game platforms make their data public, we plan to incorporate it on our site.

We hope that you will use GitHyp to come to your own conclusions on which games you want to play and become a community member of after analyzing our up-to-date data and news on gaming trends.
