Galactica – The Roots

Galactica – The roots is a free browser-based space strategy MMO that runs on fixed 60-minute ticks. The world advances on a schedule rather than in real time, so being online at 3am wins you nothing.

You start with one planet and pick one of eight playable species, each with its own tech tree, ship line and combat mechanic — one steals enemy ships mid-battle, one blocks ships instead of destroying them, one heals from the damage it deals. Mine and refine asteroids, research technologies, build fleets, set formations, join alliances, spy on rivals and read detailed after-battle reports.

It is a rebuild of a Hungarian game from 2003. Plays in the browser on desktop and mobile, no download.
