Sounds like milk and honey - with about 3k bookmarks on the main machine I was very eager to try this open approach (firefox sync is nice but I am on no-trust basis with mozilla). After backing up my complete firefox, let's go! Setup is surprisingly easy, connected it to my nextcloud at tab.digital v31.0.10. Alas, it didnt work. I had 7 different attempts: Login to my nextcloud always succeded but NEVER was there any bookmark to be seen. Tried another instance of ESR, tried another computer as...

I like Floccus very much. Since at least 2 years it runs stable at home and syncs all my bookmarks across my several PCs and Laptops to and from my local WEBDAV server. I use Floccus on Linux and Windows, both. I never had any issues.
If you are looking for a reliable tool to sync your bookmarks and open tabs across your devices - go with Floccus and please consider donating to support the author.
Offers to sign into NextCloud .. didn't supply an url. It offers to connect to Google Drive and WebDav which are both defunct. So you go to apps.nextcloud.com/signup/ and make an account and wonder where the bookmark part is and if maybe you should just stick w/NextCloud bookmarks instead. You do a search on Nextcloud apps for bookmarks and it takes you to a download that only seems to be for Linux. You try to sign in at the Nextcloud portal, and apparently it takes time for your membership to get into the system.
You clearly don't understand what Nextcloud is. The part where you wrote "didn't supply an url" assures me of this. You signed up for an app store developer account. Instead, you should have created an account (since you probably don't have any) on some instance, like tab.digital or host your own.
Also, I just used the WebDav option for my Nextcloud and It's working fine.
Both of you are ignorant of the other's plight. One is lazy and quite clearly lazy and not able to do a simple web search. Secondly, free Nextcloud services suck and are insecure for the most part. Which the second user is clearly ignorant of. The second user is also ignorant of the pure fact that running your own Nextcloud instance is something above most users' capabilities. It's an assumption most "wannabe gurus" make. Korr shouldn't have made a comment to begin with.

Tried another instance of ESR, tried another computer as well (on trixie). Tried everything in the settings (folder, tabs and so on) it never worked. Always stuck in syncing, always. Until here I 'd give even 3 stars because I couldnt figure it out (despite their nice guides) but what really annoyed me is that the logs were always empty. PS: Perhaps I will try some other time with an own nextcloud instance... It seems really weird that works so well for most people.
Update: Okay, I must apologize, at least a little!
Since this app has quite some appeal I started nextcloud locally in docker but still it didnt work. Howeverr, in some guides I saw that nextcloud has its very own app, once this was installed, it ran well (some +36k links showing within seconds). D'OH!
I had assumed that access to online space would be good enough. No, it isnt (my free instance at tab-digital hasnt "Boomarks", it's castrated), it needs both, in browser and in nextcloud, which wasnt really well communicated.
Such dedicated nextcloud server limits its usefulness, gotta try the rest...
I like to be able to sync my favorites across devices and platforms and on my own server.
I'm using floccus in conjunction with my nextcloud, and it just works. I use it on Linux, Android and Windows. The upside compared to e.g. Firefox sync is that my data is in my own hands, and no one is checking how often I visit my bookmarks. Setup is as easy as it gets, and after that I can just forget about it. Thank you!
I have been using this plugin for years now, in various browsers across different devices. I have never had any problems with it, it has always worked fine. First I synchronized my bookmarks on my HiDrive via Webdav. Meanwhile it runs via Google Drive.
For data protection reasons, end-to-end encryption should always be activated, if available for the respective connection type. For security reasons, you should of course also regularly create an offline backup of your bookmarks. Just in case.
I love foss, and will keep using floccus too, but...
I won't, in good consience recommend it unless you use some other way of backup as well (3 2 1 rule) Again, love the software and am greatful it exists, but not my experience with it. Even if it were paid non-foss software, I can see how the above bugs could've occured. but since it is foss I can't be mad at it, just blame my bad luck. (not that I use any paid software)
This is the data loss bug https://github.com/floccusaddon/floccus/issues/1454 I had.
