FirstCut

FirstCut is a narrative editor for story-driven video. Instead of trimming a transcript line by line, you work on the structure of the story: a narrative arc made of beats, beats made of real clips from your footage, and each clip tied to the exact words spoken.

What is FirstCut?

FirstCut is a narrative editor for story-driven video. Instead of trimming a transcript line by line, you work on the structure of the story: a narrative arc made of beats, beats made of real clips from your footage, and each clip tied to the exact words spoken.

Generate a first cut from a short brief, then ask for a different story arc from the same footage and compare the two as revisions. Reorder, rename, add or delete beats and clips, or cut individual words, and play each version in the browser.

FirstCut is not a full video editor. Once the story is right, export FCPXML, FCP7 XML, CMX3600 EDL or OTIO and finish in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or Media Composer. It runs in the browser with no install, and the video file never uploads: only its audio, for transcription.
