Because it's a TUI (Text User Interface) program, it's much faster than many other file managers out there. It's also keyboard-driven, and once you learn the shortcuts and download the necessary plugins, it becomes indispensable. Use it together with ConEmu (install to a Far folder) for better Unicode support and prettier color palette. Great amount of features, and it's still free!
Far Manager is one of the oldest file managers. To my surprise, it is still active after 29 years! As soon as I saw the name, which I'm very familiar with back in the day, I immediately downloaded the installer. Oh boy, the file manager is still so cool!
Because it's a legendary app! There are two best file managers ever created: Total Commander and Far, but Far is free. Actually, I use both lol.
I've quickly become a huge fan of far manager. What really makes far manager is the plugins. Two examples of really great plugins are the winscp plugin that allows your to do sftp/scp from within far, and the user manager. The one neat feature of the user manager is it allows you require a user to change their password at next login in windows xp home edition. The xp home edition ui hides this feature normally.
