FamQuest is a self-hosted family app designed for a touchscreen display in the home, for example on the fridge or in the hallway. It combines a task and reward system for children with a shared family overview. One installation serves exactly one family and runs entirely on your own server in Docker with PostgreSQL, without cloud services or external CDNs.
Routines, tasks and rewards
One column per family member, tasks are completed with a single tap, with no user switching or login on the display
Routines per child and time of day (morning, afternoon, evening), with fixed step order, optional steps and different versions for different weekdays
Daily, weekday-based, one-time and flexible tasks ("about every 3 days"), plus "one for all" tasks for adults
Points stored as ledger entries, rewards per child that can be redeemed on the display, optional parent checks for selected tasks
A fair-share view that shows how household tasks are split between adults
Made for children who can't read yet
Large icons (about 200 bundled emoji icons, searchable in English and German), avatars and colors instead of text
Symbols for calendar events (e.g. judo, swimming, playdate) so children recognize their appointments
Family overview
"Today" start page with clock, weather (Open-Meteo, no API key), the children's current routine, shopping list and the next seven days
Google Calendar integration (read-only), events in each person's color, German public and school holidays
Meal plan and shopping list that can be edited directly on the display or from a phone browser
Picture frame mode with full-screen photo slideshow, optional overlays (clock, weather, next event, open tasks) and a night mode
Self-hosting
Quick start with docker compose up -d --build, automatic database migrations, health checks
Backup and restore script, reverse proxy setup (e.g. Nginx Proxy Manager, Caddy, Traefik)
Parents' area protected by a PIN, brute-force lockout, uploaded photos stripped of metadata
English and German; more languages via translation files
A public demo with a sample family is available in English and German. FamQuest is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
