EME is no longer being developed since 2020, but the version 0.15.1 still runs on Xubuntu 23.04 and Debian 12 as of December 2023.
EME counts words and lets you toggle between different modes (write view, preview view or split view). It can be switched into full screen, and also into a distraction-free mode, a focus mode and a Vim mode. The distraction-free mode has no effect, as far as I can see.
It is hard to find the preferences. You have to move the mouse over the bar above the editor area to discover a cogwheel symbol. If you click on it, you can adjust the font and other things.
An export is only possible as a PDF document, not HTML or something else.
All in all, EME is a useful, lean Markdown editor.
