EKO Music Player information
What is EKO Music Player?
EKO is a free, open-source (MIT) audiophile music player for macOS. A native Rust audio engine decodes each track and plays it at its own sample rate, matching the output device via the CoreAudio HAL — so a 44.1 kHz file plays at 44.1 and a 96 kHz file at 96, with no silent OS resampling. Watch Audio MIDI Setup follow the music.
It's honest about it: a Roon-style SOURCE ? OUTPUT signal path shows a bit-perfect "seal" that reads BIT-PERFECT only when volume is at unity, the EQ is flat, and the device rate matches — and downgrades visibly to RESAMPLED / EQ / VOLUME otherwise. The claim is always falsifiable in the UI.
Beyond bit-perfect playback, EKO does the everyday things well: a 10-band graphic EQ (fully bypassed when flat), ReplayGain, gapless playback, a live FFT spectrum, synced lyrics, scrobbling, a sleep timer, macOS media keys + Now Playing, a mini player, and a one-click auto-updater. It plays a local library and streams from self-hosted Navidrome / OpenSubsonic servers (multi-server) through the same engine.
Formats: FLAC, ALAC, MP3, AAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, Opus. The build is a signed & notarized universal DMG (Apple Silicon + Intel) — opens with a normal double-click. Also on Homebrew (brew install --cask eko).
Built with Tauri 2 + Rust (symphonia, cpal, rustfft) and React. macOS-only for v1 because the bit-perfect device-rate matching relies on the CoreAudio HAL, which has no cross-platform equivalent.
