What is Eclipser?

Eclipser serves as a Chrome extension designed to implement a dark mode on websites. Its functionality allows for a transformation in the visual presentation of web pages on your device. Users have the option to select from a dark, softened, or original appearance. The extension can be disabled for specific sites without influencing others, and it provides the ability to adjust the scale of text ranging from 75% to 200%. Additionally, it offers the capability to decrease media glare from 0% to 80%, either globally or on a per-site basis. A unique feature allows a site to inherit the global media setting, with the global switch in Options acting as the maximum limit for all sites.

The capabilities of Eclipser extend to creating appearance profiles for either an entire site or a single specific page. It enables the activation or deactivation of all color, text, and media effects for one site without modifying other sites. Text readability can be scaled per site in 5% increments, and photos, videos, canvas, and background images can be dimmed without altering their pixels. A site-specific 0% disables inherited global media dimming on that site. Users can choose to follow the system theme or use a schedule that can cross midnight.

Eclipser also allows for the preservation of large photos and videos while adjusting small interface icons for dark surfaces. Supported settings and web profiles can be synchronized through Google Chrome Sync, if desired. Furthermore, settings can be exported or imported with a validated, versioned JSON file. The extension also includes a Pro PDF Dark Mode feature, which opens supported HTTPS PDF links in Eclipser's local Dark, Softened, or Original view. This optional automatic opening is applicable only to direct .pdf links after Chrome grants navigation permission.
