Comments and Reviews
The opensource Quicksilver does much of what DragThing did and is far more customizable.
Station (the one by True North Software) seems to come close. You have to click on the Load More Apps as the bottom of the list of alternatives to see it. IMHO this site could do with a reorganization where new programs/recently updated programs are listed first and discontinued/problem alternatives are listed last.
The developers have stated the program will not work on Apple's future 64-bit only OSes and that given the time investment to get it compliant odds are it will not be updated.
The MacOS itself can be used to create an alternative to DragThing:
Dragthing on the mac via the Dock.
Create a folder with Aliases of the programs you want in a “drawer”
Put the aliases into a folder
Repeat as often as necessary
Put these folders into another folder
Put this folder into the documents part of the Dock
Configure the resulting icon to view content by list
Click on the icon to open the “drawers” (a list of the folders containing the aliases).
Have you found anything remotely as good as DragThing yet? If so, PLEASE let me know! Do you think we should start a Kickstarter fund to pay the developer or someone else to re-write it?
QuickSilver is a excellent alternative.
You can simulate Dragthing on the mac via the Dock.
