DMXRoll serves as a complimentary DMX lighting software designed specifically for bands and musicians operating without a dedicated lighting technician. Available for both macOS and Windows, DMXRoll offers a unique approach to lighting, where each light is assigned its own track rather than relying on conventional cues, scenes and consoles. Users can select colors on a timeline that aligns with their song's BPM, and DMXRoll seamlessly generates the transitions between them. Additionally, users can incorporate their backing track or a rehearsal recording, and upon pressing play, the lighting will automatically synchronize with the music.
The software is equipped with a range of features including a timeline editor with one track per light, colored blocks, snap to beat and automatic fades. It also supports audio tracks with waveform that are played in sync with the light show. Users can create set lists that can be controlled from MIDI (Control Change / Program Change, with a Learn button). It offers Art-Net and sACN output to network nodes, and supports USB DMX: Enttec DMX USB Pro and compatibles, FTDI-based Open DMX cables, and additional devices through the bundled OLA on macOS. Furthermore, it includes a fixture editor with RGB, RGBW and single-color templates, venues, a DMX map and address conflict detection. Users can also utilize the stage view to arrange their band and lights and preview the show prior to the performance.
DMXRoll primarily caters to color and intensity fixtures such as PARs, LED bars, wash lights and blinders. The entire feature set of DMXRoll, including commercial use, is available for free, without any need for an account or trial period. Users are given the option to pay what they wish, should they find the software beneficial.
