What is CopyPasteBin?

CopyPasteBin is a privacy-focused, open-source clipboard manager for GNOME. It analyzes copied text locally for supported patterns that may represent sensitive data and displays a risk warning before the user pastes it. Detected content can be reviewed, edited, or redacted in the built-in clipboard editor.

The application also provides configurable detection filters, custom rules, exact exclusions for supported low- and medium-risk matches, pause controls, and a session-only list of recently copied text. CopyPasteBin does not upload clipboard contents, require an account, use cloud services, or include telemetry. It does not intercept Ctrl+V or paste text automatically.

Version 1.1 adds manual local image redaction. Selected areas of a PNG or JPEG can be permanently covered in a newly saved PNG copy without modifying the original image. CopyPasteBin is available as a Debian package and as a user-local tar.gz installer. The currently confirmed environment is GNOME Shell 50 on Wayland with Python 3.11 or later.
