Wonderful application and imho worth any cent of it: You can really throw any video format in, create an appealing video menu in a minute - insert a blank cd, start the encoding and leave the computer.

Didn't really find an as easy usable open source alternative yet - And that's the point: I'm not interested in (and don't have the time for) all that tech.know-how around video formats/encoding that's required sometimes if you want to use the open source alternatives: I have a video and simply want a dvd with a menu.

ive been using 'Free Video to DVD Converter' from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/

they have lots of great, small, easy to use programs that do just what the name says. not a very thorough solution but gets the job done fast.

another popular program would be DVD Flick as its a bit more in depth with customization, but takes much much longer to convert and process. http://www.dvdflick.net/

None of the actual alternatives to ConvertXtoDVD, work to convert files to DVD. Yes you can use a combination of them to do the job, but that's not the idea. Any better suggestions?

What is ConvertXtoDVD?

ConvertXtoDVD is an easy-to-use, 'one-click' video conversion application to convert and burn any video file to DVD, such as AVI (DivX, XviD), MKV (H.264 AVC), WMV, MPEG, MOV, YouTube (flash) videos and many more.
