Good news and software review websites.
Is there a better alternative to CNET? I was pissed when they changed all of my browser homepages to msn.
That sounds more like a virus or malware.
A website cannot take control of your browser and change the homepage - the exception being if it popped somethig up asking if you want to bookmark MSN and even then you would manually have to then tell your browser to set it as your homepage.
Since CNET and MSN are two separate entities, I'm still thinking a virus/malware and would suggest running a virus scan on your machine.

He's talking about the new CNET installer that all apps downloaded from CNET are now wrapped in. The installer will change your homepage to MSN and install a toolbar unless you tell it not to. It's a pain in the ass.
I recommend FileHippo.

Oh, in which case that is a bit crap indeed!
They're not the only company who install toolbars by default though and it's not a new thing. You just have to be sure you keep an eye out for the tickboxes.

CNET is now wrapping most of its software downloads in an installer that installs a "StartNow" toolbar on your computer, sets Bing as your default search engine, and sets MSN as your browser homepage. And it's opt-out. They have passed to the dark side. :(
Totally agree with OmgItsTheSmartGuy, CNET is not anymore a place one can trust. If you see that the program you are downloading ends with _cnet, stop downloading it and look to somewhere else.
