What is CharitySense?
CharitySense helps people research every U.S. nonprofit before they donate or make a grant. It covers more than 2.2 million organizations and 8.8 million IRS filings.
Most nonprofit databases stop at showing the filed numbers. CharitySense checks whether those numbers agree with each other across the return and its schedules. It flags what does not add up and lets you open the exact filing line behind a number, rating, or warning.
You can search by name, EIN, acronym, mission, cause, or a plain-English description. Each profile brings together finances, money flows, leadership pay, governance, programs, related organizations, filing history, and current evidence from the nonprofit's website. You can also ask questions about an organization and get answers with citations.
The public site and citation-backed API are free. The aim is simple: give donors and grantmakers the depth and evidence that paid nonprofit databases often keep behind a subscription.
