Chapter & Worse

A writing desk for novelists that runs in the browser and opens offline, with chapters, notes and every version kept. It also connects to Claude, so a reader that has read your whole manuscript can answer questions about it without changing a word.

Asking Claude a question about a whole novel through Chapter & Worse, using Pride and Prejudice as the example.

What is Chapter & Worse?

Chapter & Worse is a place to write a novel. Chapters down one side, notes on characters and places on the other, and nothing else on the screen. It runs in any browser, so there's nothing to install on a Chromebook, and once a book has loaded it opens without a signal. Every version is kept, along with what changed between them.

You can start on a blank page, or bring in a draft from Word, Google Docs or Scrivener (compiled to Word). Italics, bold and chapters come with it, and you see what was found before anything is saved.

The book can also connect to Claude. Add it once and any Claude chat can open the outline, a chapter, a search for a name, or the whole manuscript, always the current draft. Claude can read it and can't change it. You need your own Claude account for this.

What it doesn't do: compile an ebook or a print file, a corkboard, or two people typing at the same moment.
