What is Caustic?
Caustic is a music creation tool inspired by rack-mount synthesizers / samplers rigs. Everything is real-time and optimized for mobile devices.
Create your rack by adding up to 14 machines from a choice of:
- Subsynth - Virtual analog subtractive synthesizer
- PCMSynth - Multi-sample wave synthesizer
- BassLine - 303-like monosynth
- BeatBox - 8-channel sampling drum machine
- PadSynth - Harmonic table pad synthesizer
- 8BitSynth - 8bit equation solver synthesizer
- Modular - Fully configurable and routable synthesizer
- Organ - Hammond-like tonewheel organ with rotary speaker
- Vocoder - 8-band harmonic vocoder
- FMSynth - DX-style 3-operator fm synthesizer
- KSSynth - Karplus-Strong string modeling synth
The app also includes:
- Effects rack supporting 2 effects per machine. (16 effect types)
- Mixer desk with global Delay/Reverb effects
- Master section with parametric EQ and limiter
- Song sequencer
Discontinued
The program is no longer updated. Last version, 3.2.0, released in February 2017, can be still downloaded from the official website.

There's some serious power packed in this tiny DAW. A wide range of general purpose samples like drums, bass, guitar and piano cover common needs while a nice selection of synths cover the electronic spectrum. Then there's a highly configurable modular synth for more custom sounds, effects and composition needs like arpeggios. It's a fully-fledged DAW that bundles a complete studio in a fast app that works great on mobile as well as desktop. It also works flawlessly through WINE on Linux so as cross-platform as it gets.
It's a shame that Caustics development have been discontinued. It's such an amazing piece of software. You get a really good DAW that you can run on your phone unless you run it on a PC. For the price of the Android-version it's amazing. And even better for the PC version of course.
I had recently downloaded some antivirus software and upon downloading the file my antivirus software told me that Caustic was a trojan file
