Canopy - Ancient Arabian Astro

For over a millennium, astrologers from Baghdad to Andalusia read the sky with a precision that most modern apps have never attempted. Canopy brings that tradition to your pocket — Ancient Arabian Astrology, rendered as a calm daily practice. The sky watched from ancient Mesopotamia, from Andalusia, from the courts of the Abbasid caliphate — now in your hand.

YOUR DAY, READ BY THE SKY Each morning, Canopy tells you the planetary hour (sa'at al-kawakib) ruling the moment and the lunar mansion (manzil) the Moon has entered. These are not ornaments. They are the core instruments of a tradition codified by al-Biruni in the eleventh century, and they change your day in concrete, legible ways. Planetary hours follow the ancient order — Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars — cycling through every hour of day and night, each with its own counsel.

YOUR NATAL CHART Your birth chart is calculated using the techniques of traditional Arabian astrology — essential dignities, whole-sign houses, the Arabic lots, and the Thema Mundi as the foundational reference chart. Every placement carries a personalized reading that resonates with your core.

ELECTIONAL TIMING (IKHTIYARAT) The medieval court astrologers were asked one question above all others: when is the right moment to act? Canopy's elections feature answers it — scanning the sky for windows favorable to your intention, whether a contract, a journey, a marriage, or any beginning. The technique is ikhtiyarat, practiced without interruption since the ninth century.

TALISMANIC TIMING The fixed stars held a special place in the tradition. Canopy's talisman feature identifies windows when a star of significance rises or culminates, following the methods of the Picatrix and al-Sufi's Book of Fixed Stars, among others, so that your timing aligns with the sky's deepest architecture.

THE 28 LUNAR MANSIONS (MANAZIL) The manazil al-qamar — the twenty-eight stations of the Moon — form the oldest continuous sky-watching system in the Arabian world. Canopy carries the full catalog with daily guidance, noting which mansions are sa'd (fortunate) and which call for caution.

FIXED STARS Seventeen stars of the classical tradition — Regulus (Qalb al-Asad), Spica, Algol, Antares, Fomalhaut, and more — placed against your natal chart and the current sky.

TRANSITS AND TIMING Watch the planets move through your natal houses in real time. Canopy shows you not just what is happening in the sky, but what it means for your specific chart.

Canopy is the first and only consumer app built on the Ancient Arabian astrological corpus. For the reader who wants ancient wisdom and the precision to trust it.
