What is CamPlot Director's Viewfinder?

The CamPlot Director's Viewfinder turns an iPhone or iPad into a director's viewfinder that shows the frame a real cinema camera and lens would see.

Pick from 40+ camera bodies (ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon, Blackmagic, DJI, Panasonic, broadcast cameras and more) with 185 real sensor windows, so a 4.6K open-gate mode frames differently from a 4K Super 35 mode, the way the camera does. Add your own lens kit: primes snap to their stop and zooms ride a focal-length wheel.

Five working modes on one vertical reel:

  • Photo: the graded frame with live, draggable EV, ISO, shutter, white balance and focus readouts.
  • Video: HEVC or H.264 up to 4K with the look baked into the file, Apple Log capture on capable iPhones, and shutter as a cinema angle.
  • Exposure meter: ISO, T-stop, shutter angle and ND dials that balance each other, with average or spot metering.
  • Groundplan scanner: a LiDAR room scan that becomes a dimensioned 2D plan and a 3D model.
  • Monitor calibrator: two-point greyscale and RGB gain/lift readouts against bars.

A library of 230+ true 3D LUTs runs on the GPU, alongside your own .cube files. Any look can be exported for the camera you are shooting, composed on the manufacturer's own log-to-709 conversion for 18 log formats (S-Log3, LogC4, C-Log3, V-Log, Apple Log and more).

Also: sun and moon paths over the frame, false colour, frame lines and aspect markers, LiDAR distance, true vertical 9:16 capture, and PDF shot lists that record every camera setting, the sun's position and a QR code to each spot. Works with no signal. Frames and scans can go straight into a CamPlot Creator camera plot.
