bitcoin-rs

bitcoin-rs is an independent, open-source Bitcoin full node written in Rust. It explores an alternative node architecture while preserving compatibility with Bitcoin's consensus rules and established network protocols.

Unlike Bitcoin Core, bitcoin-rs is designed around modular components, explicit ownership boundaries, and Rust-native integration.

Key capabilities include:

• Independent Bitcoin validation: Native Rust consensus and script validation, with optional libbitcoinkernel integration for reference verification.
• Integrated indexing: Node-owned UTXO state and script indexing with Esplora-compatible APIs, reducing the need for separate indexing services.
• Modular architecture: Clearly separated consensus, chainstate, storage, networking, mempool, and indexing components.
• Performance-oriented design: Focus on initial block download, storage efficiency, memory usage, and concurrency, with reproducible benchmarking against Bitcoin Core.
• Developer integration: Bitcoin-compatible JSON-RPC interfaces and typed Rust components for building applications and extensions.

bitcoin-rs is an actively developed alternative implementation focused on client diversity, architectural experimentation, and reproducible verification. It is not yet recommended as a sole production Bitcoin node.
