The program uses a simple genetic algorithm to evolve random two-wheeled shapes into cars over generations. Loosely based on BoxCar2D, but written from scratch, only using the same physics engine (box2d).

Biogenesis is described as 'Program that simulates in a visual fashion the processes involved in the evolution of unicellular organisms at nature' and is an app. There are five alternatives to Biogenesis for Web-based, Windows, Linux and Mac. The best Biogenesis alternative is Genetic Cars 2, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Biogenesis are Foldit, BoxCar 2D, Cambrian Explosion and Egg Worm Generator.

Foldit is an experimental video game about protein folding, developed as a collaboration between the University of Washington's departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Biochemistry (many of the same people who created Rosetta@home).

The program learns to build a car using a genetic algorithm. It starts with a population of 20 randomly generated shapes with wheels and runs each one to see how far it goes. The cars that go the furthest reproduce to produce offspring for the next generation.
The primary focus is to evolve locomotion in a variety of creatures using a genetic algorithm in a fun easily accessible simulation allowing to understand the fundamentals of evolution. Stay tuned. More to come...

Simulation focused on observing digitally generated creatures with emergent behaviors as they evolve and attempt rudimentary movement, inspired by classic evolutionary experiments, without combat or traditional game objectives, offering a unique digital fishtank experience.
