What is Astraios?

Astraios is a free, open-source desktop application for processing deep-sky astrophotography images. It covers the workflow from calibration and frame registration through stacking to post-processing.

Unlike most astrophotography software, Astraios runs its image operations on the GPU via CUDA, so stacking and deconvolution finish substantially faster than in CPU-bound tools. PixInsight, for comparison, still does not use GPU acceleration.

It works with FITS files and standard calibration frames (darks, flats, bias). The interface is built with PyQt6. Builds are available for Linux (AppImage) and Windows, with a macOS build in development.

Astraios is aimed at astrophotographers who want serious processing control without a licence fee, and at anyone whose stacking times are limited by the CPU. Development happens openly on GitHub.
