What is Ascend Maps?

Ascend Maps is an open-source and privacy-friendly application for maps and GPS featuring 3D terrain, offline search, track recording and editing, advanced overlays such as slope angle shading and aspect shading, and more.

The default vector map is tile based, so any location in the world can be viewed instantly when online and user-defined regions can be downloaded for offline use. The map view is highly customizable - it is possible to add new online map sources, create custom maps combining multiple layers and overlays, and adjust vector map styling with options for hiking, cycling, and transit.

Javascript plugins provide search and routing from several online services. Technically-inclined users can write new plugins, customize map styling, and even create new effects with GPU shaders.
