Arnold is described as 'Advanced Monte Carlo ray tracing renderer built for the demands of feature-length animation and visual effects. Originally co-developed with Sony Pictures Imageworks and now their main renderer, Arnold is used at over 300 studios worldwide including ILM, Framestore' and is an app. There are more than 10 alternatives to Arnold for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Linux, Mac, Blender and LightWave apps. The best Arnold alternative is LuxCoreRender, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Arnold are MoonRay, Adobe Dimension, POV-Ray and RenderMan.
