AnkyLock is a notes app that works like a scratchpad: every new tab is an Untitled note that saves as you type, with no save dialog. Notes are organized in folders (up to three levels deep) and categories, with All Notes, Archive and a Trash that empties itself after 28 days.
Everything is encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before it is stored or synced. The key is derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2-SHA-256, 600,000 iterations), lives only in memory and is never stored or sent. There is no account recovery by design: nobody else can read your notes, including the developer.
The app works fully offline. Optional sync goes through encrypted backups in the app's private folder of your own Google Drive, which only ever sees ciphertext, and edits made on several devices merge through a CRDT (Yjs), so nothing is overwritten. For instant sync you can run your own small relay server, which forwards only encrypted packets and keeps nothing on disk.
Notes, folders or whole vaults can be exported as plain text files at any time, optionally in an AES-256 protected zip. The editor is CodeMirror 6, with light and dark themes. AnkyLock is open source under the AGPL-3.0, without ads or telemetry. It is available as a web app (installable PWA) and as a desktop app for Linux; Windows and macOS versions are planned.
