Alma is a persistent memory and identity engine for AI conversations. Instead of starting every chat from scratch, Alma automatically extracts and structures what matters from your conversations — facts, decisions, preferences, conversation summaries, and behavioral patterns — so your AI actually knows you.

Three types of structured memory work together. Semantic memories store discrete facts, each scored by importance (0-1) and confidence (1.0 if you stated it, 0.7 if the AI inferred it), categorized and deduplicated automatically. Episodes compress conversations into searchable summaries with topics and outcomes. Procedures capture your working patterns — habits the AI observes over time without you writing them down.

The Soul Engine separates AI identity into 12 configurable blocks across three sections: Identity (stable — who the AI is), Style (evolving — how it communicates, including an anti-patterns block defining what the AI must never do), and Context (auto-updated — what it knows about you and your current situation). The anti-patterns block alone improves output quality more than pages of positive instructions.

Every few messages, a background processor extracts structured knowledge, deduplicates it against existing memories, and scores it for relevance. When you start a new conversation, Alma assembles a token-budgeted system prompt pulling the most relevant memories, episodes, and procedures — no manual context management needed.

Available as a web app with full chat interface (streaming, voice input/output, image generation, document generation, deep research, canvas editor), an MCP server with 21 tools and 9 resources for Claude Desktop/Cursor/Windsurf, a VSCode extension, and a 205-endpoint REST API.
