I loved Alfred. For more than 5 years I used it to turn old phones into compact, convenient, portable security cameras. Hook the phone up to wifi or slip in a sim card with a cheap prepaid plan and you have an instant security camera you can set up anywhere. I could go away for the weekend, but set up my ipad near my cats food bowl to keep an eye on them. I could make sure my kids didn't fight while I went out to grab dinner. I could put an old android in my laundry and finally find out where...
Comments and Reviews
Alfred is very good on Android One. I previously refused to use Alfred due to not-so-favorable reviews about the price. I preferred to try alternatives solutions such as Warden, Manything, and AtHome. I especially like AtHome, and even bought the premium subscription right away. However, after using AtHome for more than two weeks, It could be just the peculiarity of my smartphone, but I found out that the camera always offline. It has to be awakened up before watching. If something is going on, you want to watch it immediately. Not after your camera wakes up. Unfortunately, I had to switch to Alfred and I think this is a good decision. I also bought the remove ad feature right away. It is a very good app at a very decent price.
I could put an old android in my laundry and finally find out where the damn mice were getting in... It was perfect. Even without paying for the app, I could remotely view, manually record remotely, and playback captured footage on my phone or laptop and it was all stored on the cloud for me for 7 days... BUT THEN... In the past few weeks, Alfred have changed their free app features and it is now practically useless to me. I'm genuinely shattered about it. While I can still remotely view, I can no longer remotely play back the recordings 🙁 Why? Because now the recordings are saved locally on whatever device you are using as a camera, so the videos are not in a central online location ready to be accessed anywhere. This playback feature was one of the most important features to me. I have a phone set up at my vacant property 2.5 hours from where I live. I can't run down there and replay a clip if I think something has been recorded that I need to check up on. Not being able to access the playback feature remotely removes half the app's functionality. It also means that you have to have a decent amount of space available on your device for the app to save the recordings and older devices often lack the space required to store such data-hungry things like video clips. I'm so disappointed that they have just pushed this change out without warning and now the app is pretty much useless to me. A month ago I'd have given it 5 stars, but today it's a begrudging 3 stars, entirely because it still actually monitors and records.
Very useful. The Ad stay in the front but its free, so no much problem
Its Easy to setup and I feel it is secure to the family.
