The original use case was for home security. I wanted to be woken up if any of my Ring camera's detected a person during the night. For this, I needed a specific time window for when the alarm should trigger and to be able to detect the keyword “person” in the notification to avoid simple motion detection. When these features were implemented, it was clear that this could have many other applications.
