aget Alternatives

aget is described as 'Aget is a multithreaded HTTP -for now- download accelerator' and is an app in the OS & Utilities category. There are four alternatives to aget for a variety of platforms, including Linux, Windows, Mac, Android and BSD. The best alternative is Wget, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like aget are aria2 (Free, Open Source), mulk (Free, Open Source) and wget2 (Free, Open Source).

    1. GNU Wget is a free software package for retrieving files using HTTP(S) and FTP, the most widely-used Internet protocols. It is a non-interactive command line tool, so it may easily be called from scripts, cron jobs, terminals without X-Windows support, etc.
    2. aria2 is a multi-protocol & multi-source, cross platform download utility. The supported protocols are HTTP(S), FTP, BitTorrent (DHT, PEX, MSE/PE), and Metalink.

    3. Multi-connection command line tool to download Internet sites. Similar to wget and cURL, but it manages up to 50 parallel links. Main features are: recursive fetching, Metalink retrieving, segmented download and image filtering by width and height.

      Discontinued

The project is no longer developed. Last version, 0.7.0, released in January 2013, can be still downloaded from SourceForge

Wget2 works multi-threaded and uses many features to allow fast operation. In many cases Wget2 downloads much faster than Wget1.x due to HTTP2, HTTP compression, parallel connections and use of If-Modified-Since HTTP header.
