Absolutely needed for Windows 7 and Windows 8! Couldn't imagine running the system without this. It's quick and simple to search for files, especially by contents.

This is the rare file searcher that gives you the option to search "Date Created" vs just "Date Modified" Doesn't sort by file category, but the program FileSearchy can.

No indexing! Slow, slow, outdated principle.
Live search always very slow, Anytxt is a free desktop search tool base on index. You can have a try. Everything and Anytxt are the best free search tool, I think.
I've never seen it slow & I've always seen it correct (that is, for as much as you will ever know). Indexing (like used on Windows) has a big issue with delivering correct results. My rule is: if it isn't correct, it doesn't matter how fast it was. Now, Ransack always seems to be correct.
