Not really for general use, but great if you are building sites in a specific major-version of Drupal. (On a Mac, I think it should be possible to run two different major-version stacks, but I haven't tried it.) Really simplifies the setup and configuration, but again, not an alternative for general dev purposes. (You could tweak/hack it to host other systems, but by then you've have been better off using a general-purpose *AMP stack.)

For my part, I run this and MAMP on my mac and this and XAMPP on Windows.
