Mullvad VPN introduces smarter & more flexible multihop modes for improved privacy control
Mullvad VPN has revamped its multihop feature, introducing three new modes designed to enhance user flexibility and simplify navigation. The updated modes, When needed, Always, and Never, give users direct control over how and when their connections are routed through multiple servers. This update aims to improve both security and usability for privacy-conscious users.
The When needed mode keeps multihop disabled unless users select a setting not supported by their chosen server location. In such cases, the application automatically reroutes traffic through a compatible server before exiting at the selected location. The Always mode ensures that connections are consistently routed through two different servers. This mode increases anonymity and provides users the ability to manually select entry and exit servers.
Additionally, Mullvad has introduced an automatic location feature for users who prefer to always multihop but want the app to pick a suitable entry server. This ensures compatibility with all enabled features while minimizing user intervention. For those prioritizing speed over privacy, the Never mode disables multihop and routes traffic through a single server. However, all selected settings must be supported by that location for a successful connection.
