Thunderbird 153 “Meadow” launches with smoother setup, Thundermail integration, and more

Thunderbird 153 “Meadow” has arrived as a major update to this popular, open source, and cross-platform email client. Building on version 140 “Eclipse” and the features delivered through monthly updates, this new version provides users with expanded functionality and improved usability.

With the introduction of the all-new Account Hub, setting up email accounts is faster and more intuitive. The Hub features enhanced auto-discover, automatic protocol detection, and streamlined calendar and address book integration. The expanded Account Hub modal now also allows users to configure both local and remote address books, scanning existing accounts for unconfigured contacts resources.

Thunderbird 153 now includes native support for Microsoft Exchange email servers via Exchange Web Services, removing the need for add-ons. Experimental support for Microsoft Graph is also included in the core software but currently disabled while calendar and address book integration is completed, which is targeted for later in the year.

Following these workflow features, Thunderbird now matches your operating system accent color, with customization options available in the appearance settings. Native notification actions now let users mark emails as read, delete them, or flag as spam directly from system notifications. OAuth authentication is handled through your default browser, including convenient one-click sign-in for Thundermail accounts. Additional UI improvements further streamline email sorting, and various other enhancements and bug fixes are also included in this update.
