Linkwarden 2.16 brings modernized design, link format re-preservation and new search modal

Linkwarden 2.16 introduces several notable updates for web and mobile users of this open source, collaborative, and self-hostable bookmark manager. On the web platform, the interface gains a refreshed look, with core navigation now housed in the sidebar and several smaller user experience changes. Additionally, a new search modal lets users search bookmarks using a keyboard shortcut and view recent searches stored locally in the browser. In addition, web users can now set the app’s theme to match their device’s light or dark mode and upload PNG images as custom link banners, expanding beyond JPEG format.

For mobile users, the release expands preservation capabilities by allowing users to re-generate saved formats such as screenshots, PDF versions, and readable views from within the app. This helps when earlier preservation attempts fail or when a page has been updated. The mobile editor now permits setting custom banner images on links and offers a new “More account settings” link, so users can manage accounts without leaving the app session. Following these improvements, Android users gain support for self-signed certificates and can add custom request headers, enabling connections to instances behind a reverse proxy or third-party authentication solutions like Authelia or Cloudflare Access.
