Google Earth Pro desktop app won't be available for new downloads starting June 25, 2027

Google has announced that the legacy Google Earth Pro desktop app will not be available for new downloads starting June 25, 2027. Existing users can continue using the desktop application beyond this date, but no new installations will be possible after the cutoff.

Following this announcement, Google is shifting its development focus to the web and mobile (Android and iOS) versions of Google Earth. These platforms are being positioned as the primary destinations for accessing geospatial insights, and users are encouraged to switch.

In line with these changes, the web version of Google Earth has gained the desktop app's most popular features, in addition to recent enhancements such as historical Street View imagery, advanced measurement tools, an environment data catalog, project sharing and editing functions, and AI-powered capabilities.

As expected with this kind of announcements, many users aren't happy and are asking Google to keep Google Earth Pro alive beyond this date. If you want to make sure you don't lose access to the desktop app, download it before June 2027 and you should be alright.
