Valve finally revealed the price of its new Steam Machine, and it’s more than $1,000

Valve has officially opened reservations for the Steam Machine through a lottery-based system for its first batch. The price of the new console-like PC is undoubtedly the most controversial part, as the 512GB model starts at $1,049 and doesn't even include the new Steam Controller. The controller bundle costs $1,128, a $21 discount compared with buying the $99 controller separately. A 2TB version is available for $1,349, or $1,428 with the controller, and includes red fabric and solid walnut faceplates.

All Steam Machine variants use the same hardware aside from storage and faceplate options, which helps support a Steam Deck-like verification program for game compatibility. The system includes a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 processor with six cores and twelve threads, AMD RDNA3 graphics with 28 compute units, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Storage is expandable through a microSD card slot, making it easier to move game files between the Steam Machine and Steam Deck.

Reservations are open until June 25 at 1PM ET for Steam accounts in good standing with at least one purchase before April 27. Entries will be randomized after the signup window closes, with selected users receiving purchase emails starting June 29. Despite the high price, the company has acknowledged that memory and storage shortages forced it to revisit pricing, with the current RAM market making component costs harder to control. Valve has also framed the official box as just one option, highlighting that SteamOS desktop support has been expanding since version 3.8 so users can build their own Steam Machine-style PC if they prefer.
