Mageia 10 released with Linux 6.18 kernel, wayland by default on Plasma & GNOME, and more
Mageia 10 has been released as the latest version of this Linux distribution for desktops and servers, almost 3 years after the latest major update. Building on its Mandriva Linux roots, Mageia 10 is powered by the Linux 6.18.35 kernel and offers newer versions of thousands of packages compared to previous releases.
This release features an extensive range of desktop environments and window managers, including updated KDE Plasma 6.5.5, GNOME 49, XFCE 4.20, LXDE, and LXQT (now with a Wayland option). Users can also choose Enlightenment, IceWM, MATE, Fluxbox, Cinnamon, Sugar, or newer Wayland compositors such as Labwc, niri, Sway, and Hyprland.
Following these desktop enhancements, Mageia 10 includes refreshed software like LibreOffice 26.2, Firefox & Thunderbird 140.11 ESR, GCC 15.2, Rust 1.95, Python 3.13, Perl 5.42, Git 2.52, Postfix 3.9.10, Apache 2.4.67, Docker 28.5.2, PostgreSQL 18.4, and the latest Mesa 26.0 graphics drivers.
Alongside software updates, Mageia 10 introduces improvements to system management through updates to Mageia Control Centre, urpmi, graphical tools, and support for DNF. With these, users can configure hardware and system settings easily and access a broad range of software through DNF, Flatpak, and AppImage compatibility.
