digiKam 9.1 brings support for Pixel motion photos, enhanced advanced search, and more
digiKam 9.1 has been released as the latest version of this free and open-source digital asset manager and photo editor. This update brings substantial updates, highlighted by its transition to Qt 6.11 and KDE Frameworks 6.26 for AppImage, Windows, and macOS bundles. These changes improve compatibility, especially with Windows 11, and enhance overall performance. Additionally, the LibRaw engine has been updated to version 20260523, offering increased performance and supporting additional camera models.
Expanding media handling, digiKam 9.1 adds support for Pixel motion photos, allowing users to view short embedded video clips from Google Pixel phones. The update also provides better audio output selection and improved video playback stability, particularly for users running the Qt AVPlayer video module in Qt5 environments. Following these enhancements, a new “Clear all groups” button has been added to the SearchView interface, enabling users to reset search filters with a single click.
For users managing collections across time zones, the database schema now supports time zones for registered item timestamps, delivering accurate and consistent time management. Building on database improvements, the release also features enhanced MariaDB migration, ensuring smoother upgrades from earlier versions. Finally, the application interface is now available in 61 languages, and the online documentation is offered in 17 languages, broadening accessibility for a global user base.
