Homebridge 2.0 brings Matter support for compatibility with Google Home, Alexa, and more

Homebridge, known for bridging unsupported devices to Apple HomeKit, has launched version 2.0 with a major addition: Matter support. This update allows Homebridge to integrate with a wider array of smart home platforms, including Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Aqara, vastly increasing the interoperability of devices across ecosystems.

Homebridge 2.0 can now operate as a Matter bridge. This enables users to bring Matter-compatible devices into the Apple Home app through Homebridge, as well as expose devices connected via Homebridge to other Matter platforms such as Home Assistant. These changes broaden the reach of Homebridge across multiple smart home environments. This will allow users to benefit from consolidated device control, managing products like Roborock, MyDyson, Somfy Tahoma, and Amazon Ring directly from the Apple Home interface, and build automations across brands with Siri.

While these enhancements set the stage for expanded capability, the rollout is in its early stages. Version 2.0 provides the underlying foundation for Matter plugin support, but no compatible plugins exist yet. It will take time for the open-source community to update plugins to support Matter emulation.
