Firefox expands Shake to Summarize feature to Android and more languages on iOS

Mozilla is expanding Firefox’s Shake to Summarize feature beyond its initial iOS launch in English by bringing it to Android and adding support for more languages on iOS. While iOS users can now access summaries in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese, Android users gain the feature first in English, with additional languages promised in future updates.

To use Shake to Summarize, users can either shake their phone or select the Summarize Page option under More in the three-dot menu for any web page under 5,000 words. This interaction generates a concise summary, making it easier to digest lengthy online content.

While iPhone 15 Pro or newer devices on iOS 26 or above generate summaries directly on-device using Apple Intelligence technology, all other iOS and Android devices securely send text to Mozilla’s cloud-based artificial intelligence system. This system leverages Mistral Small, an AI model chosen for its efficiency and commitment to open internet standards.
