ChatGPT can now connect to your bank accounts through Plaid to give you financial advice

OpenAI has launched a preview of personal finance tools in ChatGPT for Pro users in the United States. This new experience allows users to securely connect their financial accounts to ChatGPT on both the web and iOS, supporting over 12,000 banks and institutions. To ensure security, account linking is currently handled through Plaid, with Intuit integration planned soon.

After connecting accounts, users receive a dashboard view that displays key financial details, including portfolio performance, spending patterns, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. While users gain these overview tools, they can also ask ChatGPT questions that incorporate their real financial information, enabling the AI to provide guidance based on individual goals, lifestyle factors, and stated priorities.

Users may further supplement connected data by adding context about mortgages, savings targets, or major planned purchases. This helps ChatGPT deliver more relevant and complete financial guidance. For privacy, ChatGPT accesses information such as balances, transactions, and liabilities, but does not see full account numbers or modify any accounts.

Conversations involving connected financial data adhere to users’ chosen privacy and data settings and default to GPT-5.5 Thinking, the platform’s latest AI reasoning model.
